A/C Motor Speed Control?

How can I control the speed of an old A/C motor? Anything I can rig up or get at a hardware store?A/C Motor Speed Control?
they make motor controls for just this purpose,, look in woodworking mags like rockler,, they have controls for routers there...same thing

you plug the motor in the control and plug the control into AC and it varies the speed for youA/C Motor Speed Control?
Control of an A/C motor is dependent on it size and voltage, very small motors can be controlled using a rheostat they can be purchased at Radio shack. Larger motors 120V could be controlled with a Fan motor speed controlled available at any hardware store, these would be small fractional horse power split phase motors. Anything larger than that would need a VFD (Variable Frequency Drive). Please keep in mind the dangers of connecting electricity, many things such as shocks, arc flashes, burns and explosions could occur with even small voltages.

Singlepole
if it is a 120 v small motor you can purchase a rheostat which will allow you to vary the speed. but in doing so you will lose some of the output power
